The Hidden Enemy?
What exactly happened on Canada's west coast during the Second World War? Are you aware of the real threat that existed here at that time?
These issues were explored at the museum with author and historican Chris Weicht on Saturday, November 15th, 2008.
In a slide show based on his book, Jericho Beach and the West Coast Flying Boat Stations, Weicht asks: How many Japanese I-class submarines shadowed the west coast? Was our coastline ever under enemy fire? What was a FU-GO Weapon Balloon Bomb and how many were launched against North America?
Weicht's account of Japanese operations puts the past into perspective and leaves us, including many who lived through those years, with a deeper understanding of the events.
